Valorant party rank rules

Who can you queue Competitive with?

In Valorant you can play Unrated or Swiftplay with anyone, but Competitive limits the rank gap inside a party. The rules and tables below are generated from the same code PlusOne uses when you open or join a lobby, so when Riot changes the rules and we update the code, this page follows.

In short

  • Competitive takes parties of 1, 2, 3 and 5. Anyone can queue solo.
  • Four-player parties cannot queue Competitive.
  • In a duo or trio, the party's lowest rank decides how high its highest rank may be. The tier-by-tier limits are below.
  • Immortal 1 and above can only queue solo, duo or as a 5-stack.
  • A 5-stack has no rank gap limit; anyone can queue together. In some cases the RR you gain is reduced, though:
    • 5-stacks with an Immortal get a 25% RR reduction.
    • 5-stacks with a Radiant get a 75% RR reduction.
    • A member outside the normal range means a 25% RR reduction.
  • Unrated, Premier, Swiftplay, Spike Rush and Custom don't check the rank gap; only the mode's party sizes apply (see the table below).

Duo and trio: limits by tier

The rule looks at the party's lowest and highest player. In a trio, the third player's rank doesn't matter as long as it sits between those two.

Because Immortal 1 and above can't queue as a trio, players from Ascendant 1 – Ascendant 3 have a narrower trio range than duo range.

Table for every rank

If you're this rank, the lowest and highest rank that can join your party. The 5-stack column shows who you can queue with without an RR reduction. Click a rank for details.
