In Valorant you can play Unrated or Swiftplay with anyone, but Competitive limits the rank gap inside a party. The rules and tables below are generated from the same code PlusOne uses when you open or join a lobby, so when Riot changes the rules and we update the code, this page follows.
In short
- Competitive takes parties of 1, 2, 3 and 5. Anyone can queue solo.
- Four-player parties cannot queue Competitive.
- In a duo or trio, the party's lowest rank decides how high its highest rank may be. The tier-by-tier limits are below.
- Immortal 1 and above can only queue solo, duo or as a 5-stack.
- A 5-stack has no rank gap limit; anyone can queue together. In some cases the RR you gain is reduced, though:
- 5-stacks with an Immortal get a 25% RR reduction.
- 5-stacks with a Radiant get a 75% RR reduction.
- A member outside the normal range means a 25% RR reduction.
- Unrated, Premier, Swiftplay, Spike Rush and Custom don't check the rank gap; only the mode's party sizes apply (see the table below).
Duo and trio: limits by tier
The rule looks at the party's lowest and highest player. In a trio, the third player's rank doesn't matter as long as it sits between those two.
- Iron (Iron 1 – Iron 3) is the lowest in the party: the highest player can be at most Silver 3.
- Bronze (Bronze 1 – Bronze 3) is the lowest in the party: the highest player can be at most Silver 3.
- Silver (Silver 1 – Silver 3) is the lowest in the party: the highest player can be at most Gold 3.
- Gold (Gold 1 – Gold 3) is the lowest in the party: the highest player can be at most Platinum 3.
- Platinum (Platinum 1 – Platinum 3) is the lowest in the party: the highest player can be at most one tier up, same division (Platinum 1 → Diamond 1, Platinum 2 → Diamond 2, Platinum 3 → Diamond 3).
- Diamond (Diamond 1 – Diamond 3) is the lowest in the party: the highest player can be at most one tier up, same division (Diamond 1 → Ascendant 1, Diamond 2 → Ascendant 2, Diamond 3 → Ascendant 3).
- Ascendant (Ascendant 1 – Ascendant 3) is the lowest in the party: the highest player can be at most one tier up, same division (Ascendant 1 → Immortal 1, Ascendant 2 → Immortal 2, Ascendant 3 → Immortal 3).
- Immortal (Immortal 1 – Immortal 3) is the lowest in the party: the highest player can be at most Radiant.
Because Immortal 1 and above can't queue as a trio, players from Ascendant 1 – Ascendant 3 have a narrower trio range than duo range.
